What can this 2.5 kVA generator power?
This best-selling Gentrax generator can power appliances that require up to 2.5 kW output for starting and 2 kW output for running.
-
Can a 2500-watt generator run a refrigerator?
Yes, a standard fridge usually requires 600–800 watts while running and up to 1,200–1,500 watts at startup, so this Gentrax generator easily handles the load. For more power needed for a refrigerator, please choose Gentrax high-capacity generator models.
-
Will this generator run an RV air conditioner?
Yes, the Gentrax GT2500 inverter generator can run many smaller RV air conditioners, especially those in the 9,000–13,500 BTU range, which typically require between 1,500 and 2,500 watts to start and less to keep running. If your RV AC is within this range, a 2.5 kVA generator is an excellent choice. Plus, a control panel with 2×240V outlets gives you easy access to power multiple RV appliances at once.
-
Will the generator run a 30-amp camper?
Yes, in many cases, this 2500-watt portable generator can run a 30-amp camper, but you'd better run essentials like lights, a fridge, and a small air conditioner; avoid powering heavy-draw appliances simultaneously. Thanks to its pure sine wave inverter technology, it maintains stable output while reducing the noise level to 58 dB at 7 m, making it a practical choice for camping and caravanning.

My generator won't start—what should I check?
For new generators, we do recommend that after filling it up with petrol, you wait at least 15 minutes before you try and start it. This will allow the petrol to flow into the carburetor. If this does not work, here are a few things that you need to check:
1. Ensure the fuel tank is full.
2. With the main fuel switch in the "ON" position, remove the fuel hose
3. Drain the fuel from the hose .
4. Put the hose back on the carburetor and pull the cord 10-20 times. The aim is for the fuel to flow into the carburetor and not to start the generator. Wait another 10 mins before you try to start it.
-
Can I build an enclosure around my portable generator?
It's not recommended to put your generator in an enclosed space due to safety risks. Portable generators should always be set up in a well-ventilated area, at least 20 feet away from you.
-
Can I plug my portable generator into one of my household outlets?
Absolutely not. This is referred to as "backfeeding," which means feeding current back into the power lines connected to your household and can cause severe injuries to utility workers or nearby residents.
-
How do I properly fill and drain oil on my portable generator?
How to fill in the oil:
1. Loosen the cover screws and remove the maintenance cover.
2. Remove the oil filler cap and wipe the dipstick clean if fitted.
3. Check the oil level by inserting the dipstick into the filler neck without screwing it in.
4. If the level is low, fill to the top of the oil filler neck with the recommended oil.
*Use the recommended oil SAE 10W30.
How to drain and replace the oil:
1. Place the generator on a level surface and warm up the engine for several minutes. Then stop the engine and turn the fuel tap to OFF.
2. Close the fuel tank cap air vent.
3. Loosen the four screws and remove the side cover.
4. Remove the oil filler dipstick.
5. Place an oil pan under the engine. Tilt the generator to drain the oil completely. You can also remove the oil drain screw at the bottom of the generator to drain the oil.
6. Place the generator on a level surface.
7. Add engine oil to the upper level.
8. Install the oil filler dipstick securely.
9. Re-fit the side cover and tighten the screws.
-
Do I have to regularly operate my portable generator?
There is no need to operate your generator on a regular basis. In case you won't be using it for a long time, please store it according to the recommendations in the user manual.
-
How long does the generator last in real use?
On a full tank, this generator can typically run for up to 8 hours at 50% load.

What is an inverter generator and why does it matter?
An inverter generator is a type of portable generator that produces electricity in a highly regulated and clean manner by first producing AC (alternating current) electricity, which is then transformed into DC (direct current) power, and then back to AC power with the desired level of voltage and frequency, using inverters. They are known for their fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and clean electrical output, which makes them ideal for powering sensitive electronic devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and medical equipment. They are also typically lighter and more compact than conventional generators, making them easier to transport and store.
What is pure sine wave and why does it matter?
A pure sine wave is a smooth, continuous waveform that oscillates between positive and negative voltage values in a consistently predictable pattern. When it comes to power generating equipment such as inverters and generators, having a pure sine wave output is important because many sensitive electronic devices, such as laptops, TVs, and medical equipment, require clean power to function properly and not be damaged.
What appliances can this generator power?
This best-selling Gentrax generator can power appliances that require up to 3.85kW output for starting and 3.5kW output for running.
What type of oil is best for Gentrax inverter generators?
For Gentrax generators, we recommend using a 10w30 small engine, 4-stroke oil. Here's an example for reference: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/penrite-penrite-small-engine-4-stroke-engine-oil---10w-30-1-litre/346381.html
Can I use this generator in a National Park?
Generally, generators below 65dB are allowed in parks as they are considered quiet generators. Our Gentrax units have an average noise level of 58dB at 7m, which is similar to the sound of a low TV volume. However, it's still best to check with the relevant agency managing the national parks that you want to visit in case of additional requirements.
Does this generator have a digital inverter?
Yes, all Gentrax generators have digital inverter technology, which produces pure sine wave output - a 'clean' energy output that is safe to power sensitive electrical appliances.
