Generators
What is an inverter generator and why does it matter?
An inverter generator is a type of portable generator that produces electricity in a highly regulated and clean manner by first producing AC (alternating current) electricity, which is then transformed into DC (direct current) power, and then back to AC power with the desired level of voltage and frequency, using inverters. They are known for their fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and clean electrical output, which makes them ideal for powering sensitive electronic devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and medical equipment. They are also typically lighter and more compact than conventional generators, making them easier to transport and store.
What is pure sine wave and why does it matter?
A pure sine wave is a smooth, continuous waveform that oscillates between positive and negative voltage values in a consistently predictable pattern. When it comes to power generating equipment such as inverters and generators, having a pure sine wave output is important because many sensitive electronic devices, such as laptops, TVs, and medical equipment, require clean power to function properly and not be damaged.
What type of oil is best for Gentrax inverter generators?
For Gentrax generators, we recommend using a 10w30 small engine, 4-stroke oil. Here's an example for reference: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/penrite-penrite-small-engine-4-stroke-engine-oil---10w-30-1-litre/346381.html
Can Gentrax generators be used in a national park?
Generally, generators below 65dB are allowed in parks as they are considered quiet generators. Our Gentrax units have an average noise level of 58dB at 7m, which is similar to the sound of a low TV volume. However, it's still best to check with the relevant agency managing the national parks that you want to visit in case of additional requirements.
Do Gentrax generators have a digital inverter?
Yes, all Gentrax generators have digital inverter technology, which produces pure sine wave output - a 'clean' energy output that is safe to power sensitive electrical appliances.
Batteries
What is a LiFePO4 battery and how is it different from other lithium batteries?
A lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery is known for its excellent safety profile, longer lifespan, and thermal stability. Compared to other lithium-ion chemistries, LiFePO4 batteries are less prone to overheating or catching fire, making them a safer choice for outdoor power applications.
Can I use a Gentrax LiFePO4 batteries with solar panels?
Yes, Gentrax LiFePO4 batteries are solar-compatible. They work well with most solar panel systems and MPPT charge controllers, making them ideal for off-grid setups, caravans, or backup power systems. Just make sure the solar setup matches the battery’s voltage and charge parameters for optimal performance and safety.
How long do Gentrax LiFePO4 batteries last?
Gentrax LiFePO4 batteries are built to last a long time. On average, they can handle 2,000 to 5,000 charge cycles depending on how deeply and frequently they are discharged. This means they can last up to 10 years or more with proper use, significantly longer than traditional lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries.
Are Gentrax LiFePO4 batteries safe to use indoors or in enclosed spaces?
Yes, they are safe for indoor use. LiFePO4 batteries have a very low risk of thermal runaway, do not emit toxic fumes, and are considered one of the safest battery chemistries available. That said, ensure the space is dry, well-ventilated, and away from extreme heat or moisture for best performance and safety.
Do I need a special charger for Gentrax LiFePO4 batteries?
Yes, it’s important to use a charger that’s compatible with LiFePO4 batteries. These chargers are designed to follow the correct voltage and charge profile required by lithium iron phosphate cells. Using the wrong charger can result in undercharging, overcharging, or even damage to the battery over time.
